JABMenu ist eine praktische und intuitive Möglichkeit, Ihre Kontaktdaten über ein systemweites Menü zu nutzen. Die Anwendung bietet schnellen Zugriff auf die Telefonnummern, E-Mails, Instant Messaging, Postadressen, URLs und Notizen Ihrer Kontakte. Die Auswahl eines Menüelements löst eine Aktion aus, wie z.B. das Anzeigen des Inhalts in großer Schrift, das Kopieren in die Zwischenablage, das Erstellen einer neuen E-Mail-Nachricht, das Wählen der Telefonnummer oder das Anzeigen einer Adresse auf einer Karte mit einem Online-Kartendienst. Über die integrierten Aktionen hinaus unterstützt JABMenu das Erstellen eigener benutzerdefinierter Aktionen über eine Skripting-Schnittstelle, die es Ihnen ermöglicht, die Software an Ihre Bedürfnisse anzupassen.

As I write this, the JABMenu file that downloads here is in fact v2.6.3 with a creation date of May 20, 2016.
However, the JNSoftware site is currently closed, saying "we are temporarily halting the distribution & sale of all our products. We’ll be back soon."
I hope they do come back, I count on this app (and iAddressX, too).

Doing a happy chair dance. Latest version 2.6.2 does away with the annoying lag when wanting the full contact list and all contacts show up constantly.

For a long time I relied on CoBook, which has a better-looking interface and has the extra advantage of being free. Then for some unknown reason CoBook's developers decided to take away its ability to dial numbers through Dialectic, so I have switched to JabMenu (it's developer is also responsible for Dialectic, so nothing similar is going to happen here!)

"Improved support for networked sources (i.e., Exchange, CardDAV, & LDAP servers)." Unfortunately when the developer says "networked server" he means just that., a LOCALLY networked server. JABMenu can't communicate directly with Apple's own iCloud server. Which is just a crying shame because that is precisely what a lot of folks need. The first developer to come out with a contacts app. which permits those who can't or won't upgrade to Lion to use iCloud for their contact synchs after June 30, 2012, is going to make a handsome pile of money. But evidently it won't be this app.

An excellent piece of software that does the wonderful deed of enabling me to avoid the hideous interface of Address Book in Lion, as well as providing more functionality (I particularly like being able to find contacts by company name).
I emailed the dev asking how I could script JABMenu to dial my landline with PhoneAmego, and he responded within the hour with a script, detailed instructions and a short video screencast. Talk about customer service!
